Obama Team's Attack on Romney Mirrors 1994
by Stephanie Condon
May 15, 2012

(CBS News) In 1994, Mitt Romney was a political rookie and the economy was booming -- a far cry from today's political and economic conditions. Still, President Obama's re-election campaign is turning to tactics used against Romney in 1994 to attack the Republican candidate in this year's presidential race.

The Obama campaign on Monday launched a multi-pronged attack against Romney's record as the head of Bain Capital, the private equity firm he founded. The line of attack is not surprising: It strikes at the heart of Romney's chief selling point -- his business experience and economic expertise.

Romney's record at Bain was subject to attacks during the Republican primary, but the candidate has been facing similar attacks since his 1994 Senate race against incumbent Democratic Sen. Ted Kennedy in Massachusetts.

In the ad the Obama campaign launched today, workers from GST Steel criticize Bain Capital for its takeover of the company. "It was like a vampire. They came in and sucked the life out of us," Jack Cobb says in the ad.

Similarly, in 1994, the Kennedy campaign ran a series of ads featuring workers laid off by Ampad, a company Bain Capital purchased in 1992. A worker in one ad says Bain "basically cut our throats."

Professor Jeffrey Berry, a political scientist at Tufts University, said the negative advertising "had a devastating impact on Romney's senatorial bid."

"The polls showed that the ads were a turning point in the campaign and... forced Romney into a defensive stance," Berry told Hotsheet.

Paul: 'We will no longer spend resources'
by Philip Elliott

May 15. 2012

WASHINGTON – Ron Paul, the congressman from Texas and a favorite of tea partyers, effectively ended his presidential campaign Monday but urged his fervent supporters to continue working at the state party level to cause havoc for presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney.

In an email to supporters, Paul urged his libertarian-leaning backers to remain involved in politics and champion his causes despite the apparent end of his presidential aspirations. Paul has found success in wrecking the selection process for delegates to the party's late-summer nominating convention in Tampa, Fla., and trumpeted that he has delayed Romney's expected nomination.

"Moving forward, however, we will no longer spend resources campaigning in primaries in states that have not yet voted," Paul said in his statement. "Doing so with any hope of success would take many tens of millions of dollars we simply do not have. I encourage all supporters of liberty to make sure you get to the polls and make your voices heard, particularly in the local, state and congressional elections, where so many defenders of freedom are fighting and need your support."

BOMBSHELL: Al-Qaeda Infiltrator was Working for Brits not CIA, Cover Blown for Election Year Politics
by Patrick Poole
May 14, 2012

Just a week ago the establishment media was aflutter with news that a CIA double-agent had thwarted a new type of underwear bomb attack targeting U.S. flights in a plot devised by al-Qaeda of the Arabian Peninsula.

But as the week progressed, a developing bombshell story got buried under President Obama’s gay marriage announcement. Not only is the supposed CIA asset not a CIA asset at all, but the entire operation was exposed prematurely and the double-agent’s life was immediately threatened by an intelligence leak that very well may have come out of the White House for political gain.

As the story broke, the establishment media was more than happy to attribute the intelligence coup to the CIA and the Obama administration, describing the mole as a “CIA informant.”

It turns out that wasn’t true. The double-agent hadn’t been recruited and placed by the CIA, but by British intelligence, who also managed the operation. In fact, the Americans had only recently been made aware of the joint British-Saudi effort.

The leaks about the operation from the American side have infuriated British intelligence officials, who had hoped to continue the operation. The leaks not only scuttled the mission but put the life of the asset in jeopardy. Even CIA officials, joining their MI5 and MI6 counterparts, were describing the leaks as “despicable,” attributing them to the Obama administration.

5 Reasons America is in Decline
by John Hawkins
May 15, 2012

There's a reason gun sales are through the roof, gold advertisements are everywhere, products like survival seeds have started to creep into the edges of our consciousness, and Doomsday Preppers now runs on National Geographic. It's the same reason people have started asking about ways to hedge their money against inflation and which countries they can flee to if America falls apart. A decade ago, the idea that America could economically collapse because of a default on its debt seemed ludicrous, but we now know it's entirely possible that the country could turn into Greece within a decade or two. Many Americans don't see it because the country still superficially appears to be prosperous, but those that pay attention realize that we're only maintaining our high standard of living with borrowed money. The problem is that soon, there won't be enough money in the world to keep Americans living in the style to which we've become accustomed. By 2020, it will take "19 percent of the rest of the world’s GDP" just to finance our debt and we're likely to still be going further into the red at a rapid pace even then. It's easy to point the finger at Barack Obama and the Democratic Party for doing so much to weaken our country, but the problems we have don't begin or end there. They've been a long while in the making.
